Tempest 05:15
the tempest in your mind makes you restless with the wine you've got your mood swings you've got your broken strings drowns your heavy drink and brings a tainted spring you've got to cry baby the tempest in your mind makes you restless with the wine you've got your deep pockets and you know how to flaunt it but your bling bling brings a tainted spring you've got to cry baby nothin' special 'bout you child that the devil can't fix with a smile because the tempest in his smile makes you restless all the while you've got your big dreams you've got your silly schemes behind your golden ring that brings a tainted spring you're gonna cry baby nothin' special 'bout you child that the devil can't fix with a smile

Last Breath 06:10
cold and grey I stand in place I looked again at the water's face the blisters burn all through the day the achin' bones of my mistakes mother she comes with a plate of glass from the fired shores of oceans past the sky is silent now without the birds they left long ago, returned to earth now I run in place as the clouds roll by dumping acid rain from a violent sky this dry skin it cracks and peels I fear mother's wounds will never heal I watch the end through these dusty eyes and reap the grief of all my lies mother will rise washed of all my sin knowing now I'll never kill again

Tom B 05:50
old tom b he was an old man I knew him once upon a time he had to family he had no home that suited tom just fine he said, "son, don't you ask me why, I'll bet you've never seen me cry" he'd sit in the park and I'd bum him a smoke we'd talk politics and drink wine the sun would go down and old tom he'd smile throw back that bottle and finish the wine and say, "son, don't you ask me why, I'll just smile for now and say goodnight" but I did see him crying he was on a park bench sittin' all alone late one night I asked old tom, "hey what could be wrong?" but he just looked up and smiled he said, "son, don't you ask me why, sometimes you gotta hang your head a while" I moved away but never forgot old tom how could I forget a friend of mine? but the folks around there, they said he was crazy crazy for drinking all that wine but he said, "people, don't you ask me why, I'll bet I'm smiling on the day I die" when they found old tom he was on that park bench slumped over that bottle of wine I hung my head and shed a tear for tom then I just remembered him and I smiled I said, "people, don't you ask me why, I'll just smile for now and say goodbye"

Pendulum 04:45
with the end you will find a new start, and all these days they come apart and as I walk across mountains through the valley, so I can find that new end so I can start that new day that has not yet come apart don't you worry, you'll be there and I'll be there, hand in hand to fight that fight, all through the night and their time will also end and they will find that this new day is not their kind and it swings back and forth this pendulum, through the years through all sorts so take my hand and shout

keep your hands on the metal they'll call in all their dogs men like us don't settle when they can't see through the fog this is one for the century forget the past little man the world is big and sensory keep your wits if you can is your faith in god the only weapon you have? now break bread with your foes give a handshake and a smile pretend to laugh and eat your crow show your grace, hide your guile and keep your hand on that metal if you want to survive you find that knife in your back I warned you plenty didn't I the world is cheap when it attacks now say goodbye to that life you put your life in the hands of a faith that's unsound to weather this world you've got to be a god on the ground so keep your hand on that gun bow at the end of the show squint your eyes at the sun and live to see your shadow grow

Weekdays 03:01
I lived up on 8th street I lived on Roberts downtown had a room on the north side, just a shit hole under ground we stayed up late we drank too much we slept in 'til noon workin' the late shift at a greasy spoon well there's not much left after the paycheck's been spent but friday's a-comin', we get paid again you can say I'm wasting my time you can call me a cad there's love in my life I don't need money for that so when you look up at the sky don't you see the sun still shines? and don't we see the same birds as they go by? and if you don't know don't ask me why

trapped again by an innocent tongue no words to find all it takes is a little black lung to cough out the fire my brain is full of cobwebs and spiders I guess I swallowed a fly let's give it one more go from the inside give it one more try I saw the world catch on fire but I could not make a sound the children cried, the adults lied and led them all underground their bunker blew, bodies were scattered all over the lawn I finally screamed, no one could hear me they all had headphones on if you want to see the songs I will never write go ahead and peel back my scalp see what you find if you want to see the songs I will never write go ahead and pick through these cobwebs you won't like what you find I called just to say I don't mind

In The Trees 04:15
bombs are falling through the screens raving mobs can't get enough there's no more forest in the trees go ahead take us off the bluff eyes watering, ears bleeding all these face melt to one cannot eat this shit they're feeding take it all away, I'm done 'round the dinner table thoughts can kill eyes are on the telephone mouth are mute and filled with pills the cold war is right here at home so flush away all your thoughts and doubts there's no coming back from this this is where we all are now and tomorrow will never exist

I've seen the eyes of love say you'll never be alone I've seen those eyes, they walk away she shattered my bones I've been those eyes of love, with my heart wrapped around but my eyes, they walked away she crumbled to the ground now we wander these streets with misery and blind we're cast out of the garden of earthly delights it's 4 o'clock in the morning the adults have all gone to bed while we sit up at this bar sipping on our death so farewell to you, my baby be strong time's a-comin' for sayin' so long well now there's a new beginning as you dash that past the horrors of long ago forsaken at last and it's a different kind of world as you come around the bend but even that music must come to it's sweet bitter end so farewell to you, my baby, well be strong time's a-comin' for sayin' so long farewell to you, I'll take my bow time to say goodbye for now

released August 4, 2017

Recorded by That Drifter at the Granite Garage in Brooklyn
Engineered by Jared Miller at the Filter Lab in Minneapolis
Mastered by Bruce Templeton at Microphonic Mastering in Minneapolis
Produced by Jared Miller and Joe Wannemacher
Jared Miller played drums and bass on some tracks..need confirmation on which ones, I think he might have been sneaky about it once or twice. But he did do the piano on "In The Trees" and I am very grateful for that. Thanks, man!
Dr. Kerri Fabyanske played violins on "Tom B" and we are unbelievably grateful! She's a doctor of music for god's sake. Do you know how much work that takes?! AND she gave birth to twins..in the middle of doing her doctoral degree! I mean, this album took a fair amount of work but really, nothing compared to that! Thanks, Kerri! Love you!
And special thanks to Mom and Dad. None of this was possible without them..and I mean beyond the obvious biological reason you nitwits.
